In 2009 I have been together with my husband for 8 years (long time…). So last Sunday we went out (with our baby) to celebrate it with order lunch viking (the word viking means buffet in Japan) at a Chinese restaurant inside Dojima Hotel – located in Higobashi/Umeda.
I didn’t expect to find a lot of people there, since I thought that not many know this restaurant…However, it turned out be a popular place that day (lucky we had reservation…).
The restaurant was nice in many ways. The decorations and style were chic. The food was tasty, while the service level was high.
Can really recommend this place if you are looking after a fancy but not so expensive Chinese restaurant. I know that we are coming again…

A visit to the art (Miwa Yanagi & Co.)
Yesterday I went together with my husband and baby to the National Museum of Art here in Osaka. I had for a long wanted to see the exhibition of Miwa Yanagi (her thoughts about the role of young girls in the Japanese society gave me the inspiration for my fieldwork…).
When we came, we discovered that we were not the only ones who had chosen to see some art on a Sunday afternoon. Instead we found a lot of people inside the museum. However, they didn’t come for the Miwa Yanagi exhibition. The museum was (and is still) showing another exhibition about children in the art and all the things were borrowed from Louvre in Paris (the Japanese really love anything from Europe…)We decided to see both exhibitions, since the line was the same and we had to wait anyway.
Too many museum guests destroyed the whole experience of the exhibition from Louvre, so maybe if you come on a weekday with lesser people, you would be able to enjoy it.
About the display from Miwa Yanagi I only like the first part which is from a previous exhibition (the grandmother series). It shows how young women image their life as a grandmother and the freedom they feel by not being young anymore...
The second part of the display is her newest one with beautiful black/white photos and paintings but the weird motives left me cold…

Otona kawaii – is that cute?
A few weeks ago I watched a TV show about a new phenomenon here in Japan (...well, I do think it's a new thing...). As a viewer you followed the life of a beautiful model and were in this context introduced to the word ‘otona kawaii’, which literally means ‘adult cute’.
In the Japanese society you would normally not describe a woman over 30 as kawaii. But it's maybe going to change, since you can find an increasing number of people who look, dress and act younger than their age. The model in the program was a good example of that. She looked and act like what you would call kawaii, even though she was no longer in her 20s.
However, the questions are, can and should adult women be cute?

Mama Club Theater - good or not?
I generally love to go out and do things like eating at fancy restaurants, hanging out at bars or watching movies for instance. However, it is difficult to do any of these things, when you have a baby to take care of. I was therefore very excited, when someone told me, it is possible to bring your baby with you to the movie theater (well, you can’t leave the baby at home…). I decided to check it out and last month I finally went to the movie theater, where I haven’t been since I gave birth to my baby.
Not many movie theaters offer this service in Osaka, but one that does is Toho Cinema inside the hip Marui. The service includes a place where you can put your baby carriage and the sound is lower than normally to protect the baby’s ears. For more information.
The mama club theater has its limits though. The service is only available twice a month and it is never on a Sunday (which means that my husband can’t join us…). Another fact is that you can only choose between one Japanese movie and one movie from Hollywood (the chance to choose a movie you like is limited too…).
For me the whole mama club theater was a mix experience. There was nothing special about it and I was very surprised to discover that you didn’t need to be a mom or dad with a baby to buy a ticket for this particular service. So, the date and the choice of movie may be limited but it isn’t when it comes to who can get admission to the mama club theater (I guess it is all about the money…). That is not very ‘mama/baby’ friendly, since you need to breastfeed your baby…
I would after all say that it is nice that some movie theaters offer this kind of service. It gives parents with babies an opportunity to get out and watch a movie together with other people in the same boat (well, almost…). So, I will definitely go again, if they are showing a movie I really care for…
