I generally love to go out and do things like eating at fancy restaurants, hanging out at bars or watching movies for instance. However, it is difficult to do any of these things, when you have a baby to take care of. I was therefore very excited, when someone told me, it is possible to bring your baby with you to the movie theater (well, you can’t leave the baby at home…). I decided to check it out and last month I finally went to the movie theater, where I haven’t been since I gave birth to my baby.
Not many movie theaters offer this service in Osaka, but one that does is Toho Cinema inside the hip Marui. The service includes a place where you can put your baby carriage and the sound is lower than normally to protect the baby’s ears. For more information.
The mama club theater has its limits though. The service is only available twice a month and it is never on a Sunday (which means that my husband can’t join us…). Another fact is that you can only choose between one Japanese movie and one movie from Hollywood (the chance to choose a movie you like is limited too…).
For me the whole mama club theater was a mix experience. There was nothing special about it and I was very surprised to discover that you didn’t need to be a mom or dad with a baby to buy a ticket for this particular service. So, the date and the choice of movie may be limited but it isn’t when it comes to who can get admission to the mama club theater (I guess it is all about the money…). That is not very ‘mama/baby’ friendly, since you need to breastfeed your baby…
I would after all say that it is nice that some movie theaters offer this kind of service. It gives parents with babies an opportunity to get out and watch a movie together with other people in the same boat (well, almost…). So, I will definitely go again, if they are showing a movie I really care for…
